Five Bracelet Projects Worth Making
Bracelets are among the most satisfying beading projects — they're wearable, giftable, and quick enough to complete in a single sitting. Whether you've never picked up a beading needle or you've been crafting for years, this collection of five bracelet ideas has something for you.
1. Classic Stretch Bead Bracelet (Beginner)
What you need: 6–8mm round beads, elastic cord, scissors, beading mat
This is the perfect starting point. Thread beads onto elastic cord, test the length around your wrist (leaving a little slack), then tie a surgeon's knot — two overhand knots twisted in opposite directions — and trim the tail. Tuck the knot inside a bead if possible. Done. You can vary the look endlessly by mixing bead types, colors, and sizes.
Pro tip: Use a bead stopper or tape one end of the cord before you start so beads don't slide off as you work.
2. Single-Strand Lobster Clasp Bracelet (Beginner–Intermediate)
What you need: Beads, beading wire (e.g., 49-strand .015"), 2 crimp beads, lobster clasp, jump ring, crimping pliers, flush cutters
String beads onto beading wire, loop the wire through a crimp bead and your clasp, fold back through the crimp, squeeze the crimp with crimping pliers, and trim. Repeat on the other end with a jump ring instead of the clasp. This introduces you to crimping — one of the most-used finishing techniques in beading.
3. Seed Bead Daisy Chain Bracelet (Intermediate)
What you need: Size 11/0 seed beads in two colors, beading thread, beading needle, clasp
The daisy chain stitch creates a linked row of flower shapes. For each "daisy," pick up 8 seed beads in your background color, form a loop, then pass back through the first bead. Add a center bead in your accent color through the middle of the loop. Repeat the pattern until the bracelet reaches your desired length. This project builds needle and thread skills beautifully.
4. Leather Wrap Bracelet (Intermediate)
What you need: 2mm leather cord, seed beads or small accent beads, beading thread, needle, button or toggle clasp
This bohemian-style bracelet wraps multiple times around the wrist. Work a simple backstitch or running stitch along the leather cord, threading beads on as you go to create a beaded spine down the center. The leather provides structure while the beads add color and texture. Attach a large button on one end and a loop of cord on the other as a simple closure.
5. Brick Stitch Cuff Bracelet (Advanced Beginner)
What you need: Size 11/0 Delica seed beads, size B beading thread, beading needle, clasp
Brick stitch creates a dense, fabric-like beaded panel that can be shaped into a cuff. Start with a ladder stitch base row of two beads, then build upward row by row, looping through the thread bridges of the row below. This technique allows you to create patterns, gradients, and even pixel-art style imagery using bead colors. A 1.5-inch wide cuff is a great first project in this stitch.
Tips for All Bracelet Projects
- Measure your wrist before you start — most adult wrists are 6.5–8 inches around, but add at least 0.5 inch for comfortable wear
- Lay out your bead design on a beading mat before stringing to preview the finished look
- Use consistent tension throughout — uneven tension is the most common cause of lumpy or misshapen bracelets
- For gifts, make a few test pieces first to dial in the sizing
